A Closer Look at The 100

These last few weeks of school have definitely been a struggle for me. Because it is the end of the year, it has been difficult for me to find enough time to read, as well as manage my time with homework and hold my job position. My reading goal may come up short this year. In the past 2 weeks, I have only read about 100 pages, and my goal was to read 10 books by the end of the school year. Unfortunately, I have only read 6 books so far. I have started another book on the AP reading list called The Great Gatsby, but I'm not here to talk about a book on the AP reading list, I am here to talk about The 100.

The 100  is a fiction dystopian novel written by Kass Morgan. This book is the first of a series, which is so popular, it became a hit TV show on The CW network. This novel follows several convicted teenagers' lives on a spacecraft called the Ark, where any crime committed is punishable by death. The Ark was created in order to save the human race from radiation that struck th…

A Closer Look At The Color Purple

I have made an effort towards my goal of 100-150 pages a week, and I have made progress. I am now reading closer to 200 pages a week. For me, this is incredible, because I spend so much of my time working that I have less time to read. I have decided on an AP title as well, although, it is not one of the titles mentioned in my previous blog. I am going to read The Color Purpleby Alice Walker. I have not read very far into the novel, but I have heard many positive reflections, and I have been wanting to read it for a very long time. I somehow have never gotten my hands on a copy!

The Color Purple follows an uneducated, black women named Celie and her journey throughout her life. She suffers through a traumatic childhood which carries into her adult life. Her stepfather was physically and sexually abusive, and her husband Mr.______ abused her for years as well. Her sister Nettie, often encourages her to defend herself. Nettie was more liked by her father, but never suffered any abuse. It…

An Introduction to the Reading Life of Hanna Lewis

When I think about my reading life, I picture a long, infinite journey. A sea of books I'v read, and an ocean of books longing for me to open their pages. I'v loved to read ever since I began reading Dick and Jane at 3 years old. I have better taste now, and as a student at Hebron High School, I have wide opportunities for reading. I have come so far in my reading life, and I know there is still room for me to learn and grow.

My reading goal for this 9 weeks is to read about 100-150 pages per week, and to read something on the AP reading list. It can be difficult for me to find time after school to set aside for reading, because I work everyday from 5 to 10 at night right. I often read on the hour long bus ride to home for about 30-40 minutes. I'd love for everyday to be like fresh, turn of a page, but lately everything just seems like a routine. In the same way, I love to read different genres. For example, in the past I have read non-fiction, memoirs, science fiction, hi…
